I ate roussette (BAT!)
ZONE CONFERENCE!
Things are going pretty okay here. Zone conference was really fun, it was cool getting to see and meet all the missionaries on the island. Everybody knows everybody, it's like a mini weird extended family, which also makes it fun with transfers (which are this Monday.) Every body makes predictions and even just the change of a couple of people is exciting. But conference was good.
As a district, we put on a concert Sunday night for our ward, We had life a fireside and had a mixture of solo pianos, duets, "district choir" songs. It was good. I played a couple of pieces and they went alright. It's funny just because the culture is so relaxed here, during multiple piano solos people just sang a long and oh! bishop finished the fireside with his testimony, except he poetry slammed his testimony as Sœur Decady played the piano. It was so cool, and so different, haha I loved it. We had a lot of our investigators come though and they loved it.
Oh! the day has already came! One of our mamis made us roussette to eat! which issssss.....BAT! I ate bat! See pictures below. They just cook it as it is whole, boiled in water. You could see it's teeth, and face, and hair and yah, haha it tasted kind of like lamb, at least the meat part of it, and our mami said that you eat all of it, wings and everything. So I tried eating that but as soon as I started seeing the hairs coming off of it I decided I was good haha. My companion didn't try it and because of that Mami now likes me more than my companion haha. We saw her at Church the next day and she was telling everyone about how she made me some roussette and how I ate it and everything, so that was interesting.
On the street we got confronted by some drunk guys, they weren't that bad, they just wanted to talk to us. They told us that they were members and the one closest to me kept on moving back and forth getting closer and further away from my face, he said "Sœur Rodriguez!! you're American!!" and I said " Yes yes I am. Whats your name?" and he said " Joseph!! like Joseph Smith!!!" I laughed and then we snuck our way out of that situation and kept on walking to where we were going. Keep in mind this was a Monday morning at 9 am, I don't know what these guys were doing, but it did give me something to laugh at that day.
The mission work itself is going good though, the girl I told you about last week is doing great, we just taught the plan of salvation. She is so sweet. and the stake has a dance performance activity they are putting on soon so they have practices all the time for it. She is participating in it is so she is at all the practices and has been coming to church, she's doing great.
About the mission itself, most everyone is either from Tahiti or America (at least here on New Cal) we do have a couple from Canada. Tahitians are different culturally in some ways but it really just depends on the Tahitian. Sœur Bonet is pretty American. She likes to use my makeup and talks about social media and things like that pretty often, she is also amazed by the amount of products and things I have for my face and my contacts and all that haha.
One thing I learned this week is the importance of just inviting. a lot of people have no idea what they are missing or how to get it, but the knowledge of the gospel is a million dollar gift, we just have to offer it to people, and even if they reject it, we won't regret having extended the invitation because it is what we are commanded to do to share the gospel, with everyone!!
